How to Help Someone Overcome Marijuana Addiction

If you want someone to stop because of their health, do some serious research on sites that are not regulated by the government or that carry a religious affiliation.

Think of your own reasons for wanting your friend to quit. Is it because it's bad for them? Because it is illegal in some areas of the country? Because it makes them different?

Do not make them watch anti-drug commercials. These often do not tell the truth about marijuana, making it sound like crack or heroin. In truth, the drug is not as potent; the only serious cases are with someone who gets high at least once a day, or by themselves often in which case you can probably convince your friend to look at that as an addiction. - click here to know what will happen if you quit weed

60 top and most popular reasons

"Addiction is persistent compulsive use of a substance known by the user to be harmful"; such as to family relationships, the ability to concentrate on complex concepts, holding employment and maintaining good work quality.

  • Smoking marijuana releases serotonin, a chemical in the brain that triggers a feeling of pleasure. When someone smokes regularly the brain becomes used to higher amounts of serotonin production, so when they quit and production drops they experience a mild mental withdrawal from the dependence on the previously increased levels of serotonin and the pleasure it brought commonly they can't sleep.
  • While the physical manifestation of this withdrawal is not as intense as with other drugs, the mental withdrawal is similar. At its core, addiction is more about using a substance to mask psychological issues than it is about the drug itself, but if it were not so much misused, then it might be permissible in some rare instances.

State that this dependence (reliance on the drug) is a problem, and it will not make things better to be stoned often. It probably gets boring to discuss this issue, and a break now and then is good. Things will only get more depressing deep down and worse on all fronts if the person remains dependent and unwilling to change. After serious use of marijuana, there is usually a "down period" that can last a week or two, depending on the amount taken in. This often dissuades people from quitting.

  • Cannabis use disorders (CUD) encompass the two distinct diagnoses of abuse and dependence, defined in the DSM-IV (professional psychological manual) by the same criteria as for other substance use disorders, according to the American Psychiatric Association (APA). CUD includes neuro-cognitive (nerve and brain) impairments such as problems with "psycho motor function" (coordination), "attention," "memory," and "learning," which occur during intoxication, some of which persist through a brief period of abstinence.
  • A heavy user with CUD (disorder) may need to stay off cannabis for several weeks to no longer display the neuro-cognitive deficiencies in the named problem areas as there is often depression or other issues, and it is clear that underlying "individual" motivational (self-discipline) issues remain indefinitely.
Best method is to give them an experience that's far better then marijuana.Take the addict to a family trip make him more comfortable forget that he's an addict and talk naturally make him try adventure sports like bungee jumping or water surfing and loads of adventure.

I bet after a week of this "live Big" experience the addict is now addicted to real life with full of fun and would have forgotten about that old sick habit.
